Florida Scholarships
The Florida Department of Education established the University of Florida Scholarships for Freshmen for high school graduates. The admissions office has a limited amount of scholarships available for accepted candidates who submit their applications by the priority deadlines and receive their admissions status on February Decision Day. It is not necessary to submit a separate application, additional papers, or current data for examination.
The evaluation process employs a similar comprehensive methodology to the admissions screening process. Academic achievement, success on standardized tests, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, volunteer work, and personal writings are all taken into account when awarding scholarships. The outstanding freshman class makes it challenging to provide scholarships.
Scholarships may be distributed differently to students with comparable test scores, grades, extracurricular activities, and other considerations because there are a finite number of them available. Each school year, just 10% of freshmen are awarded merit scholarships.
If you are selected for one of the merit-based scholarships, you will be notified via email and your status will be updated by the middle of March. Students who are not selected for scholarships are not notified by UF. You were not selected for a scholarship if the university doesn’t get in touch with you.
Waiver of Residential Tuition
Those who are awarded the opportunity to join the University Research Scholars Program will receive a $2,000 residential tuition discount (with $500 waived each fall and spring term). It is not necessary to submit a separate application, additional papers, or current data for examination.
Although this residential tuition waiver is offered to both Florida residents and non-residents of Florida, the classification of residency for the purposes of tuition is not taken into consideration. Any Florida PrePaid accounts would have their charges reduced as a result of this award.
Benacquisto Scholarship and National Merit Finalists
A $500 annual National Merit Scholarship from the University of Florida is available to National Merit Finalists who choose the University of Florida as their top choice university with the National Merit Corporation by the deadline of May 31. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation releases monthly lists of finalists who have named UF as their top choice starting in early March and continuing through early June.
The Florida Department of Education offers the Benacquisto Scholarship, which pays the remaining institutionally listed cost of attendance for in-state residents (minus Bright Futures and the applicable National Merit Scholarship). One of the University of Florida scholarships that meets the criteria to be considered a college-sponsored scholarship for the Benacquisto Scholarship is the UF National Merit Scholarship.
The legislature must annually appropriate funds for the Benacquisto Scholarship Program, a state-funded project.
Scholarships from Lombardi and Stamps
Prospective students may apply for the John V. Lombardi Scholarship and the Stamps Family Scholarship if they rank at the top of their class and exhibit leadership, community service, extracurricular involvement, and moral rectitude. Candidates should submit their applications during their final year of high school since the application round for these awards starts in the fall of each year. Homeschooled kids may also be nominated by their advisors, along with up to two graduating seniors from each high school. This page contains links to the application and nomination guidelines.
Florida Opportunity Scholarship by Machen
The Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship program’s major goal is to help low-income, first-generation undergraduate students graduate by providing them with financial aid and one-on-one support. In order to ensure that students succeed at UF by addressing systemic obstacles and issues, the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars program offers a full grant and scholarship financial help package in addition to a comprehensive support program. To be eligible, applicants must first be admitted as first-year students at the University of Florida. After filing their FAFSA, students who match the basic eligibility standards are invited to complete the MFOS Supplementary Form (FAFSA). Students who qualify for the program must have a family income of less than $55,000 per year and assets of less than $35,000 in total.
Fee Exemption for Out of State
All undergraduate students may request an out-of-state fee waiver if they attended a secondary school in this state for three straight years prior to graduating from a high school in this state and applied for enrollment at a Florida institution of higher education within 24 months of high school graduation, in accordance with Florida Statute and the Florida Board of Governors Rule.
